Bereavement Assistance is a not-for-profit registered charity, and we are dedicated to helping families who may be struggling financially, leaving them free to grieve without the added financial stress of costs associated with engaging with a commercial funeral service.
At Bereavement Assistance you have the choice of either a private, unattended cremation; or a private, unattended burial.
As a not-for-profit registered charity, we rely on a number of commercial partnerships, with our primary partnership being with the Victorian State Government through the Department of Health and Human Services. Our agreement with the Department of Health and Human Services requires us to determine eligibility for our services therefore, if a family approaches Bereavement Assistance seeking to engage our services, we will request financial records from families in order to determine a family’s eligibility.

We believe everyone, no matter what their financial, social or family circumstances are, has the right to a quality, dignified funeral service – rather than putting their family into financial hardship or having a pauper funeral. We never turn anyone away.
